MEDIA RELEASE
Sheridan Fire-Rescue (SFR), Sheridan Police Department (SPD), Goose Valley Fire Department (GVFD), and Wyoming Regional EMS (WREMS) responded to the report of structure fire Wednesday evening, May 1, 2024, at 17:55. SFR Engine 2 (E-2) arrived on scene at 17:59 to a single story, single family home presenting a large amount of fire from the attached garage and rear half of the home.
E-2’s crew established a water supply and deployed multiple preconnected hand lines to initiate fire attack, starting on the exterior to keep the fire from spreading to nearby structures. When additional resources arrived on scene, crews began making entry inside the structure to extinguish fire and perform a search for occupants or pets, in which no other people or pets were inside. Once the main body of fire was extinguished, personnel began overhaul to expose hidden hot spots along with ventilating the structure to remove heat and smoke.
SPD assisted the fire crews with providing traffic control and keeping bystanders a safe distance away. WREMS provided standby for civilian and firefighter safety. No civilians, pets, or emergency personnel were injured during this fire.
The scene was turned over to SFR Origin and Cause Investigators and is currently under investigation. The family is currently displaced due to the extent of damage to the home and is in contact with the American Red Cross for assistance.
SFR has responded to multiple fires over the past two weeks and continues to stress the importance of making sure you have working smoke alarms for early warning, being aware of personal behaviors that can cause a fire, or closing doors when sleeping and when evacuating from a structure fire. Fire is Everyone’s Fight!
