Winter Weather Updates: Snow Plowing, Safety, and Community Programs
As winter weather continues, the City of Sheridan is providing important updates and resources to ensure the safety and preparedness of our residents. Please review the following information:
Snow and Ice Control Plan and Winter Safety Updates
Winter Safety Precautions for Sidewalks in the Downtown Business District on Main Street:
The City requests business owners to avoid using salt or chemical de-icers on sidewalks. These products can cause significant damage to new concrete surfaces by flaking or cracking due to chemical reactions. Instead, please use sand to minimize slipping hazards.
Clearing sidewalks of snow as soon as it falls is encouraged to prevent ice buildup. This also helps the City keep parking areas clear on Main Street when snow is picked up.
Snow Emergency Alert System
Snow Emergency Activation: During extreme winter weather, a Snow Emergency may be declared to address conditions that pose immediate risks to life or property.
This declaration will utilize the Everbridge notification system to reach all contacts within Sheridan, even if individuals are not actively subscribed to Everbridge.
Notifications During Snow Emergencies:
Advises citizens to avoid unnecessary travel within City limits. Enforces a no parking rule on designated snow routes throughout the emergency to clear main roads.
Prioritization of Routes:
Snow removal will concentrate on primary streets and arterials essential for Police, Fire, and EMS access.
Secondary and residential routes will have limited or delayed plowing, with some steep roads potentially closed for safety during severe conditions.
Odd/Even Parking Rules:
Odd/even parking restrictions are in effect citywide to facilitate effective snow removal, particularly on narrower streets.
Residents are encouraged to check signage and adhere to these parking guidelines for easier street clearing by City crews.
